About me – Physics Tutor
Paul Cartwright
B.Sc., M.Sc., P.G.C.E., P.G.D.E.S., M.Inst.P., F.R.A.S.
I have more than 20 years experience of teaching physics.
I qualified as a teacher in 1997 and taught for several years at two successful secondary schools in Oxfordshire. Subsequently I worked for a time at the University of Oxford and built up a thriving business, becoming a sought-after private tutor in the Oxford area.
I was one of the first private physics tutors in the UK to regularly teach via the Internet, and helped pioneer the development and delivery of high quality physics tuition online.
As well as being a full-time professional tutor, I am also an active and experienced senior examiner for A level physics with one of the major exam boards. My work has included writing whole examination papers and mark schemes, authoring multiple choice questions, working alongside senior colleagues evaluating and improving exam papers before production, supervising and supporting fellow examiners at the marking stage, participating in post-marking grade review sessions, and writing Principal Examiner reports for teachers.
I have degrees and postgraduate qualifications in Physics and in Science Education, from the universities of Durham and Oxford (my master’s degree thesis is listed here in the Oxford University library catalogue). I am also a full Member of the Institute of Physics and a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Beyond physics tuition, I have also been an occasional question writer for the BBC TV show Mastermind!
I lived and worked in Oxfordshire for 19 years until 2015, when I returned to my home county of Suffolk. I am married with two young children: spending time as a family, whether at home or out and about, is the thing that I enjoy the most!
